The section comprises almost 7% of the CKF population and our highest rank is 5dan. The section is still dependant on grading panelists from Japan and on the CKF iaido section for our major financial and logistic support. The section has created a strategic plan which is being finalized now. It will provide us with agreed-upon goals and ways to reach those goals as we look to the future.

We have held one jodo individual tournament, as a division of the Ontario Open Iaido championships, and we plan to initiate a team tournament to be held some time this year. The section has been centered in Ontario but we now have a firm base in the west with three clubs in Calgary, Rossland and Vancouver. We hope to continue supporting these clubs to provide a more country-wide coverage and increase the population.

We continue to enjoy a close relationship to senior instructors in Japan with five hachidan (four are hanshi, one is the chair of the ZNKR jodo committee) from Fukuoka and Tokyo plus several nanadan who accompany them to teach. We have been able to provide two major seminars a year so far and we hope to be able to continue that in the future. These seminars with our Japanese sensei are  financially supported entirely from within the jodo/iaido community itself and we have no plans to ask for financial support from the CKF in the future.

The CKF has provided partially awarded support through the development fund for the 2011 Calgary Iaido and Jodo seminar and we hope that in the future we can obtain the full awarded support from the fund for similar seminars to spread jodo throughout the country.

We refer you as well to the iaido report as most jodo members also practice iaido and so there is a large overlap of activities.
